Chemin des Bonshommes: hiking from the campsite

From the campsite, access to the "Chemin des Bonshommes"

At the immediate departure of the campsite, without taking the car, there are two walking possibilities to reach the "Chemin des Bonshommes" (GR 107):

  • Reach the GR 107 at Montferrier (30 min walk): take the start from the campsite Village des Bons-Hommes (Le Pré-Cathare). After 6km, in the village of Montferrier, take the junction for the GR107 Chemin des Bonshommes.
  • Reach the GR 107 in Montsegur (2h walk): start from the campsite Village des Bons-Hommes (Le Pré-Cathare). Once you arrive at the castle of Montsegur, you can reach the trail of Grande Randonnée "Chemin des Bonshommes" GR 107.

 

The Chemin des Bonshommes, a path steeped in history

It is the trace of a tragic and perilous exile that this cross-border GR, which crosses the Pyrenees between France and Spain. It is a mountain hike that crosses Ariège and Catalonia. The "Bonshommes" are the priests of the Cathar religion, also known as albigensians, a form of "heresy" (from the point of view of the Catholic religion) which developed a powerful influence on the region between the X° and XII° centuries.

The route of the GR 107 was also located in an area of rich trade across the mountain from the 11th to the 16th century.

 

The "Path of the Good Men" or "Path of the Weavers"

At the immediate departure of the campsite, without taking the car, the Bon-Hommes trail" on the GR 7, which many know as "Chemin des Tisserands", allows you to reach the castle of Montsegur, Cathar castle, after 2 hours of walking. The trail is a centuries-old path that athletes and walkers take regularly.
